The Liquorice Experiment
Valencia, get ready to take a trip down the rabbit hole. Garage-rock grit, swirling psychedelic guitars, gloriously off-kilter rhythms and a healthy dose of musical madness are heading to 16 Toneladas on Friday 13 November, as London's The Liquorice Experiment join local troublemakers Golden Peluco for a late-night double bill with plenty of personality.

Headlining the evening, The Liquorice Experiment have been exploring the stranger corners of garage and psychedelic rock since emerging in London in 2016. Their sound draws on the spirit of the 1960s while giving it a darker, more experimental twist, built around tremulous guitars, reverberating riffs and melodies that seem to take a few unexpected turns along the way.
There's a wonderfully hazy, almost hallucinogenic quality to their music, but beneath the swirling guitars lies plenty of substance. Their lyrics take an introspective and frequently ironic look at modern society, wrapped in a melancholic atmosphere that gives the songs an identity of their own.
The band have also entered an exciting new chapter. Reformed as a four-piece in 2026, with Bruno on guitar and vocals, Brian on bass, Carlos on drums and Florencio on guitar and organ, they've expanded their musical palette and pushed further into experimental territory.
Their latest album, Million Faces, recorded at Estudios Circo Perrotti in Gijón under the production of Jorge Muñoz Cobo (Doctor Explosión), arrived in May via Desdemona Records. Across eight tracks, it builds on the foundations of their debut How Many Lies while exploring fresh psychedelic territory, with echoes of The Electric Prunes, The Music Machine and the more adventurous side of The Yardbirds.
Opening proceedings are Valencia's own Golden Peluco, a trio assembled from the musical wreckage and creative energy of previous projects including Amatria, Jackson Milicia, Mr. Perfumme and Gilbertástico.
There's no grand musical manifesto here, just three musicians with a shared appetite for doing things their own way. Their approach combines muscular rock rhythms, expressive vocals and a wonderfully eccentric sense of humour. Expect a performance that favours personality, spontaneity and a healthy disregard for playing things too safely.
It's an intriguing pairing, with Golden Peluco's exuberant local rock providing the perfect introduction to The Liquorice Experiment's more psychedelic, garage-soaked universe.
And there's no better place for this kind of musical adventure than 16 Toneladas. One of Valencia's essential live music haunts, the club has built its reputation on putting interesting bands in front of audiences who appreciate their music loud, live and without unnecessary fuss.
With doors opening at 11:30pm and the concert getting underway at midnight, this is strictly a late-night affair. Friday the 13th seems an appropriately mischievous date for a night promising a little musical unpredictability.
Two bands, two distinct personalities and a shared love of taking rock music somewhere a little less predictable. If garage, psychedelia and independent rock are your thing, make a date with 16 Toneladas.
