Valencia's alternative music scene is about to get a rare treat as Mexican post-rock pioneers Austin TV arrive at 16 Toneladas on Wednesday 10 June for what promises to be one of the most unique and emotionally charged concerts of the summer.

For those unfamiliar with the band, Austin TV are far more than just another instrumental rock outfit. Since emerging from Mexico City in 2001, they have become one of the most influential independent bands in Ibero-America, inspiring an entire generation through their fiercely independent DIY spirit, cinematic soundscapes and distinctive masked appearances. Their motto, "Tu cara no importa, importas tú" ("Your face doesn't matter, you matter"), remains at the heart of everything they do. The masks aren't a gimmick; they're a statement, shifting the focus away from personalities and onto the music itself.
Over the years Austin TV have built a devoted cult following through a unique blend of soaring post-rock, math rock precision and soundtrack-like atmospheres. Their music moves effortlessly from delicate, almost cinematic passages to huge emotional crescendos that can leave audiences simultaneously exhilarated and emotionally drained. Without singing a single word, the band somehow manages to tell stories that feel deeply personal and universally relatable.
Their reputation has carried them from underground DIY spaces across the world to some of the biggest stages imaginable. Austin TV have performed at major festivals including Vive Latino in Mexico, Coachella in the United States and Rock al Parque in Colombia, earning a reputation as one of Latin America's most innovative and influential independent bands.
After stepping away from the spotlight for nearly a decade in 2013, many fans feared they would never return. Then came the comeback. The band reunited in 2022, released new music and returned to the stage with a triumphant resurgence that reminded everyone exactly why they had become such an important force in alternative music in the first place. Their return performance at Vive Latino attracted more than 30,000 fans and reaffirmed their status as one of Mexico's most beloved cult bands.
The venue could hardly be more fitting. 16 Toneladas has built its reputation as one of Valencia's most respected live music spaces, a room where audiences can experience artists up close in an intimate environment with excellent sound and visibility. With a capacity of around 300 people, the venue offers the kind of connection between artist and audience that larger halls simply cannot replicate.
Expect soaring guitars, hypnotic melodies, explosive crescendos and a room full of fans losing themselves in music that doesn't need lyrics to communicate. Austin TV concerts have always been immersive experiences, and in the close confines of 16 Toneladas the band's emotional, cinematic sound should feel even more powerful.
With doors opening at 20:30 and the band taking the stage at 21:00, this is one of those gigs that feels destined to become a word-of-mouth favourite among Valencia's music lovers. Whether you're a long-time fan or discovering Austin TV for the first time, expect an evening of mystery, atmosphere and post-rock beauty from one of Latin America's most distinctive musical exports.
Some bands demand your attention with frontmen and egos. Austin TV do it with masks, melodies and moments you'll be thinking about long after the lights come up.
