La Fumiga

There are good ways to say goodbye, and then there's La Fúmiga. On Friday night, the Alzira outfit turned Roig Arena into one enormous celebration of Valencian music, identity and togetherness, delivering a spectacular two-hour-plus performance in front of 18,000 fans. And with just one show left before they call time on their career, the emotion was never far from the surface.

The first of two sold-out farewell concerts, the show was a full-throttle trip through more than a decade of music, memories and moments that have made La Fúmiga one of the most recognisable names in the Valencian music scene.

They certainly didn't waste any time getting started. Opening with the unmistakable sounds of 'Mediterrània', the band had the arena on its feet before following up with 'Principis' and 'Addictes a viure'. From there, it was a relentless celebration of a catalogue packed with songs that have become the soundtrack to countless fiestas, festivals and nights out across the region.

'Què tia!', 'No sé ballar', 'Karrasketon' and 'La ferida' sent the crowd into full voice, with thousands singing along to every word. This was a band playing to its own people, in its own language, on a stage big enough to match the occasion.

One of the night's standout moments came when La Fúmiga turned the spotlight towards their Valencian roots, delivering special arrangements of traditional favourites 'La Malaguenya', 'La Muixeranga' and the ever-popular pasodoble 'Amparito Roca'. The response was enormous, with the arena erupting in applause. It was a powerful reminder that La Fúmiga's music has always been about more than catchy choruses and infectious brass arrangements. Their identity is woven into everything they do.

The celebrations continued with 'Quan caminàvem', 'Monstres i gegants', 'Rebobinar' and 'Primera conjugació', before 'Ja dormiré' provided one of the evening's biggest singalong moments. A genuine generational anthem, it sounded absolutely enormous with 18,000 voices joining in.

As the night moved towards its emotional final stretch, there was no shortage of ammunition. 'Hora blava', 'Rècord mundial', 'Espremedors', 'Covards' and 'Havia de passar' kept the energy levels soaring, before 'Llavors' brought the first chapter of this farewell double-header to a close.

It's difficult to imagine a more fitting setting for these final performances. La Fúmiga have spent more than ten years building a connection with audiences across the Comunitat Valenciana, taking their music from local celebrations to some of the biggest stages in the country. Roig Arena gave them the opportunity to celebrate that journey on an extraordinary scale.

Saturday night sees the band return for one final performance at the arena, with another 18,000 tickets sold. Between the two concerts, approximately 36,000 people will have come together to celebrate a band that has become a huge part of the region's contemporary musical identity.

For now, Friday belonged to La Fúmiga, their music and the thousands of people who have grown up with it. There were anthems, brass, dancing, plenty of Valencian pride and more than a few emotional moments.

A decade-plus of memories, condensed into one enormous night. One more show to go, and then the music stops. But the songs, the memories and the legacy of La Fúmiga will be sticking around for a very long time.
