Selver
Oxford's indie-rock scene has another name worth scribbling in the margins, and Selver are making a convincing case for themselves with debut EP The Nerve. Their track “Lanes” is a fine introduction to a band who understand that great indie rock needs more than a decent guitar riff. It needs atmosphere, melody and a rhythm that gets under your skin.

“Lanes” sets the tone with a driving groove and guitars that shimmer around the edges without sacrificing their bite. There’s an appealing tension between the track’s restless energy and its melodic sensibility, while the vocals give the song an emotional centre rather than letting it disappear into a wall of guitars. It's the sort of sound that nods towards the angular cool of Interpol and the alternative-rock instincts of Pixies, yet leaves room for Selver to carve out their own identity.
The story behind the band is almost as compelling as the music. Songwriter Jamie Williams spent a lengthy spell away from performing, quietly accumulating a collection of songs before deciding to bring them to life. Finding the right musicians took time, but the line-up finally clicked into place in early 2025. Since then, Selver have been building their reputation on Oxford stages, including the O2 Academy Oxford, The Bullingdon and The Jericho Tavern.

That live experience fed directly into The Nerve, recorded at Challow Park Studios in November 2025 and released in August 2026. A run of Oxfordshire festival appearances has helped introduce the band to a wider audience, and the early press reaction has been encouraging. Americana UK praised the vocals, while Nightshift Magazine reckoned there was plenty of evidence that Selver were ones to watch.
“Lanes” offers a persuasive glimpse of why. There’s confidence in the arrangement, an instinct for a memorable melody and enough restless energy to keep things interesting. Selver aren't simply chasing the sound of their influences; they're using familiar indie-rock ingredients to build something with its own character.
With The Nerve, Selver have made a promising entrance. If “Lanes” is anything to go by, this is a band with the songs, the atmosphere and the live experience to take their music well beyond Oxford. Keep them on your radar.
