Half a century deep and still setting the global standard, the legendary North Sea Jazz Festival is gearing up for one of the biggest celebrations in its history. This July, the iconic Dutch festival turns 50 — and the anniversary edition looks absolutely stacked.

Taking over Rotterdam Ahoy across July 10, 11 and 12, the 2026 edition pulls together an explosive mix of jazz royalty, soul legends, funk architects, hip-hop innovators and genre-bending newcomers for three days that promise wall-to-wall musical fireworks.

Headlining this golden anniversary are global icons including John Legend, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, The Isley Brothers, Marcus Miller and Dutch superstar Frenna — a line-up that perfectly captures the festival’s long-standing mission to push jazz beyond boundaries.

And then there’s The Roots. The Philadelphia hip-hop pioneers are bringing a special performance loaded with heavyweight guests including Bilal and Jon Batiste, while drummer and cultural powerhouse Questlove will also appear during the weekend. It’s the kind of crossover booking North Sea Jazz has perfected for decades — where jazz, soul, hip-hop and experimental music collide into something unforgettable.

What started on July 16, 1976 in The Hague with six halls, 300 musicians and roughly 9,000 visitors has grown into one of the most respected music festivals on Earth. Back then the line-up included immortals like Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz.

Fast forward fifty years and North Sea Jazz now stretches across 17 stages, welcomes around 1,300 artists and attracts nearly 90,000 music fans from around the world. More than just a jazz festival, it has become a global meeting point for soul, funk, R&B, fusion, Latin, electronic music and cutting-edge experimentation.

This year’s programme is packed from top to bottom. Friday brings the elegance of Diana Krall, the virtuosity of Esperanza Spalding, the explosive energy of Snarky Puppy with the Metropole Orchestra, and the ever-evolving genius of Joshua Redman.

Saturday swings between the cinematic jazz of Anouar Brahem, the timeless cool of Cassandra Wilson, the Latin fire of Estrella Morente and a massive tribute to Miles Davis as Marcus Miller presents We Want Miles! alongside Mike Stern, Bill Evans and more.

Then Sunday lands with pure star power: Pat Metheny, Hiromi, Charles Lloyd, the groove-heavy magic of Nile Rodgers & CHIC and the soulful grandeur of John Legend closing out the weekend.
