- Fermín Muguruza
On Friday, May 2nd, Viña Rock experienced one of its most resonant moments of the festival with the return of Fermín Muguruza — a comeback after more than a decade away from its stages. From the opening notes of “Sarri Sarri,” the Kortatu anthem that launched the set, it was clear this wasn’t a nostalgic exercise. Muguruza had come not to revisit the past but to engage the present — with the same force and focus that has defined his entire career. Over the course of nearly 90 minutes, the Basque artist delivered a performance that was intense, stripped-down, and deeply intentional. Ska, dub, punk, and reggae flowed naturally — the sound of a career that’s always been equal parts rhythm and resistance. No flashy visuals, no theatrical tricks — just a tight, purposeful show where every song was a political and cultural act. One of the show’s most powerful dimensions was the presence of multiple guest artists who transformed the performance into something larger than a solo set. Sharing the stage with Muguruza were Tremenda Jauría , feminist rap icons whose energy amplified the concert’s call for inclusion and change; Bewis de la Rosa , a singer from Castilla-La Mancha who reinterpreted a portion of “Sarri Sarri” through a feminist lens; and Antonio Rada , both as an emerging artist and as a representative of Valor Manchego — a platform advocating for greater representation of local artists in festivals held on their own land. Their appearances weren’t ornamental — they were aligned with the manifesto Muguruza co-signed with over a hundred artists, calling for more women and regional acts on Viña Rock’s future lineups. Technically, the concert was clean and sharp. The horn section punched through with clarity, while the dub textures provided depth and space. Muguruza’s voice, still potent and full of edge, carried the weight of every lyric with precision. The band played tight, the rhythm never faltered, and the sound mix kept the message at the forefront. Visually, the show was minimal — by design. There were no overproduced effects, no attention-grabbing tricks. The message was in the music and the presence. This wasn’t a spectacle, it was a statement. This wasn’t just a return — it was an intervention. Muguruza didn’t come back to bask in past glory. He came back to push forward a vital conversation about equity, representation, and cultural responsibility in the music scene. His set at Viña Rock 2025 wasn’t just one of the best of the weekend — it was a masterclass in how to use a stage, a voice, and a history to move things forward. Words & photos: Iker Audicana

On Saturday 3rd May, Lendakaris Muertos performed on the Negrita stage at Viña Rock Festival . Performing to a capacity crowd, the band delivered a high octane set of fan favorites, with Aitor Ibarretxe commanding the stage with his unstoppable energy, theatrics and distinctive voice. - Green Jelly
On Friday, May 2, Bill Manspeaker , the frontman of Green Jello returned to Buffalo to celebrate his birthday at Nietzsche's . Rowdy concert goers filled the small venue, impatiently waiting as they moshed through four opening acts: Cruix of Tournament, Abandoned Trains, Bastard Bastard Bastard, and Living Brain Dead. Around one in the morning fans erupted with shouts of “Green Jello sucks” and “Happy Birthday Bill” as Bill Manspeaker strutted into the venue. Green Jello, the self-proclaimed world's worst band, and their Halloween inflatables were too big for the stage, and spilled out into the crowd. Immersing the fans in a one-of-a-kind punk show experience filled with pool noodles, puppet masks, mosh pits and complete darkness. Green Jello is a comedy punk rock band that formed in 1981 but didn’t rise to fame until 1993 with the release of, “The Three Little Pigs” from their album Cereal Killer Soundtrack . The album included Danny Carey on the drums and Reverend James Keenan as the voice of the Three Little Pigs who shortly after started their own band Tool. Unfortunately, as their fame grew the owner of the Jell-O trademark decided to sue Green Jello for infringement and won. Green Jello then became Green Jelly and had to re-release their albums with the new name. Today they are still officially Green Jelly but you can find flyers, merch and the like with the Green Jello logo. His album Cereal Killer Soundtrack is back on Billboard, making it to number six directly under Weird Al. Utter chaos erupted in the venue as the crowd adorned puppet masks made into characters from the band’s music and other popular icons like: the three little pigs, the big bad wolf, the Cow God, Rambo, Toucan Sam, and Spong Bob to name a few. The participating puppet mask wearers were encouraged to be a part of the show, then the lights went out and the entire room erupted into a violent mosh pit. Pool noodles were tossed into the crowd and Bill urged everyone to wave them into the air and hit the band with them. Green Jello tours nationally and can be found at small venues and private parties where Bill brings the puppet punk show to your house, boat or location of choice. Bill has a core band that travels to all the shows but has different band members all over the globe. Performing in shows that are local to them and sell merch to help pay for their travels, making Green Jelly / Jello the world’s largest worst band ever. - The Genitorturers
The Genitorturers are not for the faint of heart. Part concert, part theatrics, part freak show, the Genitorturers will shock, awe, and leave you wanting more. On Sunday, April 29th, The Genitorturers bloodied the stage at Photocity in Rochester, NY. The room was filled with goth’s from all ages, howling with excitement as dollar bills were stapled to a tattooed man, and drank shots from a tube that ran through his nose. Gen stomped onto the stage and hung to a human sized red cross. Singing industrial music mixed with hardcore punk. Changing masks, weapons, armour, and tools of rites; Gen sang as the theatrics continued. Adorning groupies with fake blood, and attacking them with her tentacles. While Athena Fatale brought XXX to the stage in her many costume changes. Her barely there costumes, skillful dance moves and theatrical performances tantalized men and females alike. formed in 1986 in Orlando, the band burst onto the Florida hardcore scene in the 1990´s alonside bands such as Marylin Manson and the Spooky Kids . Since then the band have taken their erotic fetish fuelled goth celebration of the unspeakable worldwide. Check them out: The Genitorturers Words & photos: Bethany Couture

- Acid Mothers Temple
Formed in 1995 Acid Mothers Temple ( Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. to use the full name!) are a Japanese Psychedelic Rock band with a mind bending 102 studio album, 9 EPs, 56 Live Albums and 6 Compilation albums to their name. Thats 173 album releases in 30 years!! On Saturday 26th April they performed at 16 Toneladas in Valenica, as part of their 30th anniversary Dark Within Of Astropia European tour. These guys are hardcore - 38 gigs in 38 days across europe! The club was capacity and the crowd eager as band members Kawabata Makoto (Guitar), Higashi Hiroshi (synthesizer), Jyonson Tsu (vocal, guitar), Satoshima Nani (drums) and Julien Omeyer (bass) took to the stage. Taking no prisoners they launched into a brutal, space-rock, synth-distorted performance - which is best described by music reviewer David Bennun: " In a non-stop stream of thrilling noise, they segue from supercharged stomp-rock, through doomy choral chanting and frazzled go-go, to a thundering melee of atonal freakouts. Then on to a pulsating, echo-drenched disco-rock groove, which morphs into a motorik rhythm too rapid even for the autobahn, works itself into a squalling frenzy, breaks cover as a kind of galloping, syncopated, Underworld-with-rabies affair, and flows into a long, chiming trance number climaxing in a collective instrumental howl." What followed was. nothing short of incredible, with the band taking us on a psychedelic musical journey and leaving the crowd happy, high and wanting more! New to Acid Mothers Temple ?
